FRANKFURT, Germany — The German Football Association (DFB) has scheduled a press conference for Friday, where Jürgen Klopp is widely expected to be officially introduced as the new head coach of the German men’s national football team.
While the DFB has not publicly disclosed the purpose of the event, multiple reports indicate that Klopp has reached an agreement to succeed Julian Nagelsmann, whose tenure came to an end following Germany’s disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The announcement would mark Klopp’s return to coaching after stepping away from Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season. Since January 2025, the 59-year-old has served as Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer, overseeing the company’s international football operations.
According to reports, the DFB and Red Bull finalized an agreement allowing Klopp to leave his executive role and take charge of the four-time world champions. Klopp is regarded as one of the most accomplished managers of his generation. During his coaching career, he transformed Borussia Dortmund into Bundesliga champions before leading Liverpool to the UEFA Champions League title in 2019 and the Premier League title in 2020, ending the English club’s 30-year league title drought.
Germany turned to Klopp after another disappointing World Cup campaign, seeking a coach capable of restoring the national team’s competitiveness on the international stage.
