ABUJA, Nigeria — August 11, 2026 — Nigerian authorities are targeting December 2026 for completion of the 2.6-kilometre Mararaba–Nyanya Flyover and adjoining road project, a major infrastructure development intended to improve movement along one of the busiest commuter corridors leading into Abuja.
Nigeria’s State House reported on August 10 that authorities in Nasarawa State expect the project to be completed before the end of the year.
The Mararaba–Nyanya corridor serves large numbers of commuters traveling between Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory, making congestion and lengthy travel times a significant challenge for residents who use the route regularly.
Improving Movement Into Abuja
Once completed, the flyover and accompanying road improvements are expected to help ease traffic congestion and improve the movement of people and vehicles between communities in Nasarawa and Abuja.
The project could be particularly important for workers who live outside the Federal Capital Territory but commute into Abuja for employment and business.
Reduced congestion could mean shorter travel times, lower transportation costs and improved access to economic opportunities on both sides of the FCT–Nasarawa boundary.
The infrastructure could also support businesses that depend on the corridor to transport goods and services.
The December completion target will now place attention on construction progress over the coming months.
For ordinary commuters, the project’s success will ultimately be measured by something very practical: whether the new infrastructure makes the daily journey between Nasarawa and Abuja faster, safer and more reliable.
