ABUJA, Nigeria — August 20, 2026 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, with the appointment taking effect on August 27, 2026.

Enitan will succeed Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is leaving the position upon her retirement.

The appointment places Enitan at the head of Nigeria’s federal civil service, the administrative system responsible for supporting the implementation of government policies and delivering public services through federal ministries, departments and agencies.

The Head of the Civil Service plays an important role in personnel management, institutional coordination, administrative reforms, workforce development and improving efficiency across the federal government.

The leadership transition comes as the Tinubu administration continues efforts to strengthen government institutions and improve the implementation of national policies.

For Nigerians, changes at the top of the civil service may appear less visible than appointments to major political offices, but the position has a direct connection to how effectively government operates. Policies approved by the presidency and federal ministries depend heavily on civil servants for implementation, monitoring and continuity.

Enitan will therefore inherit responsibility for helping ensure that Nigeria’s federal workforce can effectively translate government decisions into services and programmes that reach citizens.

His tenure will be closely watched for progress in civil-service reform, accountability, professionalism, digital transformation and institutional efficiency across federal ministries and agencies.

Enitan officially assumes office on August 27, beginning a new chapter in the leadership of Nigeria’s federal administrative system.
