Washington – As the US supreme prepares to hear challenges against the Affordable Care Act (ACA), on Thursday, from the Oval Office; President Joe Biden signs a number of executive actions on health care.  The president said that his action was to protect the ACA that has come under attacks from former Donald Trump and the Republican Party. President Biden has directed federal agencies to reverse Trump-era policies that weaken the healthcare.gov insurance marketplace and made it harder for Americans to get health insurance and Medicaid.

President Biden, who was vice president during President Barack Obama administration when the ACA became law in 2010, when promised the voters during the Democratic primaries and the presidential elections, that when elected, he will not just protect the law but will expand the ACA. The president has directed the Department of Health and Human Services to open the Healthcare.gov starting February 15 through May 15 to allow those who at affected by the coronavirus pandemic the opportunity to register for affordable healthcare coverage.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), commonly known as Obamacare provided low costs health care coverage for millions of American with pre-existing health conditions but the Democrats and the Republicans have both disagreed on the healthcare law and the Republicans, during President Trump’s administration, have been battling on repealing the law.

In a related development, Mr. Biden issues a memorandum rescinding the Mexico City Policy. The Mexico City Policy does not allow federal funding for an international organization that carries on abortion. The memorandum will now allow federal dollars to support these organizations that provide assistance and counseling on female reproductive health.

Since taking office on January 20, President Biden has taken a series of executive orders rolling back many of Trump’s policies.
