ABIDJAN, Côte d’Ivoire — August 18, 2026 — Côte d’Ivoire is putting digital transformation and innovation in the spotlight this week as the inaugural Africa Future Festival opens today in Abidjan.

According to the Ivorian government’s official agenda, the festival runs from August 18–20, bringing attention to Africa’s growing technology ecosystem and the role innovation can play in the continent’s economic development.

The festival coincides with another major digital initiative: Côte d’Ivoire’s first International Academy of Digital Law, taking place from August 17–21 at Félix Houphouët-Boigny University and the African Management Development Centre, known as CAMPC.

Together, the events highlight two sides of Africa’s digital transformation. The Africa Future Festival focuses attention on innovation and emerging opportunities, while the digital law academy addresses the legal and regulatory environment needed as governments, businesses and citizens increasingly rely on digital services.

The development is particularly important as African countries work toward greater economic integration. Cross-border e-commerce, digital payments, data governance and technology investment increasingly require countries to develop compatible rules and stronger digital infrastructure.

For Côte d’Ivoire, hosting the events also provides an opportunity to strengthen Abidjan’s position as a regional center for technology, business and innovation in West Africa.

The discussions could have implications beyond Côte d’Ivoire. As African economies become more digitally connected, cooperation on technology regulation could help businesses operate across borders while providing clearer protections for consumers, investors and digital users.

Why it matters: Africa’s economic integration will increasingly depend on digital integration. Strong technology ecosystems combined with clear and predictable digital regulations can encourage investment, support entrepreneurs and make it easier for African businesses to reach customers across national borders.
