ZURICH, Switzerland — FIFA has launched a dedicated Sustainability and Human Rights Strategy for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027, outlining a comprehensive framework to guide the planning and delivery of the tournament while promoting environmental responsibility, social inclusion, and respect for human rights.
The strategy establishes a roadmap for addressing key issues associated with hosting one of the world’s largest sporting events. According to FIFA, the framework focuses on environmental management, accessibility, inclusion, worker protections, and identifying and mitigating human-rights risks throughout the tournament’s organization and operations.
The governing body said the strategy is intended to ensure that sustainability and human-rights considerations are integrated into every stage of tournament planning, from infrastructure and logistics to fan engagement and community participation. FIFA will work alongside Brazilian organizers, government authorities, host cities, and other stakeholders to implement the measures outlined in the framework.
Among the priorities identified are reducing the tournament’s environmental footprint, improving access for people with disabilities, promoting equal opportunities and inclusion, safeguarding workers involved in tournament-related activities, and strengthening mechanisms to prevent and address potential human-rights concerns.
FIFA has increasingly incorporated sustainability and human-rights commitments into its major competitions as international expectations for responsible event management continue to evolve.
